You have choices for anxiety treatment.
At the NeuroDevelopment Center, you have options for your anxiety treatment. You can choose an established option such as individual therapy or innovative treatments backed by science, such as neurofeedback or heart rate variability biofeedback. You get to find the solution that is best for you.
In individual therapy at the NeuroDevelopment Center, you can build a strong, supportive, and truly collaborative relationship with one of our psychologists. We will help you understand your difficulties and implement solutions for anxiety treatment that work for you – solutions that last for decades. We won’t just listen, nod our heads, and sympathize. We will help you with the very hard work of change and growth. Working along with you, we can call upon our decades of experience and a very broad range of anxiety treatment strategies, including:
Anxiety treatment may involve the family. This is especially true for children and adolescents, but also sometimes for adults. Without knowing it, parents and other family members can end up supporting or sustaining the anxiety. In family therapy at the NeuroDevelopment Center, you will learn how best to help your child or other family member overcome their worries and fears.
Your heart beat is a great “stress-o-meter”. When you are stressed or in a negative emotional state, your heart beats in lockstep. The amount of time between heart beats changes very little. When you are calm or in a positive emotional state, the beat to beat interval becomes more flexible. Heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback provides an easy and very concrete way to see how anxious or stressed you are. It also makes is easy to learn which strategies help you to reduce arousal and get calm again. A simple sensor on your ear or finger picks up your heart beat. The computer analyzes the interval between heart beats. During HRV biofeedback sessions we will help you learn to relax your muscles and your mind, reduce negative or anxious thought patterns, and learn to slow and regulate your breathing. Once you learn the techniques in sessions in our office, you can also use inexpensive software at home. This helps you reinforce your ability to recognize when you are bothered and rapidly regain your calm. With this natural anxiety treatment, you gain confidence that you are in control, not your anxiety.
Neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback is a research supported anxiety treatment. It is a way to train the brain to reduce anxiety at the source. Advanced neuroscience has shown the brain networks that are involved in anxiety. With neurofeedback, you are able to learn how to reshape brain activity patterns to quiet the brain networks that have become stuck in high gear or chronically active in anxiety disorders.

School phobia or even extreme anxiety about performance can lead kids to miss school or even refuse to go to school at all. Our psychologists have been working with schools to implement best educational practices with students with anxiety for over 20 years. Sometimes we are engaged by the school, sometime by parents. Our goal is to help build a robust collaboration between parents, students, and staff, so that your child can return to school with less anxiety and improved ability to cope.
