Neuropsychological testing and assessment: Understand your brain, understand yourself.
Neuropsychology is the study of brain-behavior relationships. Everything we do is governed by the brain. The brain influences us whether we are awake or asleep, at work or at play, learning a new skill or practicing a familiar routine. Just like differences in body shape and size, there are important individual differences in how each individual brain functions. We each have a unique profile of strengths and weaknesses in brain function.
This profile can be the key to a better understanding of the difficulties you face. It can be the key to more effective and efficient solutions. At the NeuroDevelopment Center, we will work with you to complete careful neuropsychological testing and assessment. We will review the results with you and answer all of your questions so that this key to understanding and improvement is yours. You will receive a prompt written report written in easy to understand language with clear and practical recommendations.
We use many different tests to look carefully at:
- intelligence
- language
- perceptual and visual-spatial abilities
- speed of processing
- memory
- learning
- attention
- problem solving
- conceptualization
- planning and organization
- mental flexibility
- motor skills
- academic abilities
- emotional and social functioning
One month after the testing is completed, you will meet with your neuropsychologist to review the assessment report. Some reports are so full of jargon, the client can’t really make sense of it. We hear about it all the time: “I listened and even re-read it, but I really never understood.” Not at the NeuroDevelopment Center.
Our reports are written so that YOU understand. They are jargon free, written in no-nonsense everyday language. Other reports offer little beyond seemingly endless tables of numbers. Not here. We do pay careful attention to the test results. But these results will be integrated to give you a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses. Most important of all, you will receive clear, practical recommendations for treatment. A neuropsychological assessment at the NeuroDevelopment Center will be the first step on your path forward.
